Day to Day Life of a Medical Volunteer

Medical volunteers often begin their day early getting to hospital for 08:00 so they can accompany doctors on their morning rounds. This is an excellent way for them to become familiar with patients and really get a feel for the hours and level of dedication that goes into being a doctor. Volunteers on this placement also get a good idea of local cuisine as in most hospitals they will eat at the staff canteen.

Lunch is also usually eaten at the traditional time of 11:30, which for some volunteers might seem awfully early. Lunch breaks are also very long lasting for over two hours - some volunteers take this time to go home and catch up on some sleep or explore the local area surrounding their hospital. During the afternoons they generally finish at 16:00 and after this point are free to explore the city or for those more dedicated medical volunteers a chance to read over notes taken during the morning and ask any nurses or doctors available any further questions.
